Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a treasure of ancient Chinese science and a key to Chinese civilization. It's a systematic philosophy explored and formed by the Chinese people in their practice that elaborates disease prevention, cures, health cultivation, fitness and harmony between people and nature. With a history of 5000 years, TCM contributes not only to the prosperity of the Chinese nation, but the health of people all over the world.

 

Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (BUCM) is the earliest higher education institute of TCM approved by the State Council, and a key university featuring TCM studies directly under the administration of the Education Ministry of the People's Republic of China. In order to make TCM culture accessible to more people, the Chinese Language International Promotion and Chinese Medicine Culture Centre (Beijing) was established in 2016 at BUCM under the support of the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban).

 

To introduce the ancient yet evolving TCM to the world, CMCC was established as a window into the science, which marks a new era of Chinese Medicine culture communication.

Feel TCM

CMCC is the best place to feel the beauty of TCM. The rich collection in the Chinese Medicine Museum is a holistic showcase of TCM's historical development. The Experience Centre adheres to advanced principles of openness, interaction and innovation. As a pioneer in the interactive experience of Chinese Medicine culture, it invites visitors to feel the Chinese medicine culture in an immersive environment.

The layout of CMCC is dedicated to illustrate the magnificence of TCM development. Its design incorporates new elements into traditional aesthetics. Its display makes profound ideas easily accessed. CMCC offers customized activity plans for different visitors to experience Chinese Medicine and satisfy the demands of TCM lovers at different levels.

 

 

Experience TCM

CMCC represents an innovative way to offer experiences of TCM functions and effectiveness.  It offers Chinese Medicine tours, diagnosis and treatment experience, non-medicine therapies like acupuncture, fitness activities and medical diet experience. Visitors could have an immersive TCM experience through sight, sound, tours and activities.

The Experience Centre is a four-story building, taking up an area of 1680 square metres. The first floor introduces TCM and briefly shows its landscape. It consists of six areas illustrating basic TCM knowledge, acupuncture and tuina, herbal medicine, Chinese pharmaceutics, Kung Fu and meditation. Interactive system that incorporates sound, light, electricity, simulation and other advanced technologies, along with handmade herbal medicine demonstration, introducing visitors to the colorful TCM culture. The second floor presents the diagnosis and treatment of TCM with a focus on the internal approach. It consists of six areas featuring introduction, medical sages, nine body constitutions, pulse-taking, fun medicine. Diagnostic methods and therapies from ancient times to the present day are displayed. This floor is equipped with the apparatus that integrates ancient treating methods with modern high technologies so that visitors could have an idea of the style of TCM therapies. The third floor demonstrates medical practices with a focus on the external approach. It consists of eight areas featuring massage, channels, acupuncture, moxibustion, techniques and treatment tools. Visitors could experience a variety of therapies including ear acupuncture, Tuina, cupping, scraping, acupuncture and moxibustion. They can also learn about the traditional Chinese qigong exercise. On the fourth floor, visitors could learn the Chinese way of healthy eating and food recipes and have a taste of the Chinese medicinal diet.

CMCC is a cultural platform for understanding. We believe that every TCM lover has the potential to practice and apply TCM in their daily life. We encourage all participants to have their own approach and passion for TCM.  TCM is a spectacular treasure throughout Chinese history, a medical wonder indispensable to Chinese science, and a systematic philosophy of the Chinese on life and nature. More importantly, CMCC invites people of different colours, nationalities and ages to taste herbal medicine, learn acupoints, prepare medicines and study health cultivation.
