Traditional Chinese medicine （TCM） is the treasure of ancient Chinese science, and the key to open the treasure house of Chinese civilization. Combining healthy lifestyle, disease prevention and fitness enhancement with the concept of harmonious coexistence of human and nature, TCM is not only a complete theoretical system but also a culture developed through the practice and exploration of Chinese people since ancient times. Over thousands of years, TCM has made significant contribution to the well-being of people in China and around the world. In order to make the ancient practice accessible to more people from different parts of the world, the Chinese Language International Promotion and Chinese Medicine Culture Centre (Beijing) was established in 2016 at Beijing University of Chinese Medicine under the support of the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban).

 

Chinese Language International Promotion and Chinese Medicine Culture Centre (Beijing) consists of the Museum of Chinese Medicine and Chinese Medicine Experience Centre. Being a window into the world of TCM, it plays an important role in promoting TCM and helping foreigners have a comprehensive understanding of the traditional Chinese culture. Since its opening in 2016, more than 1000 people from countries all over the world have taken part in the experience activities in the centre.

 

In order to help people who are interested in TCM acquire an in-depth and intuitive understanding of the science, the Chinese Medicine Experience Centre provides an opportunity for visitors to learn about TCM culture and try out the time-honoured practice in person. Currently the open sections include TCM exhibition, consultation, non-herb therapies (such as acupuncture), physical exercise and Chinese medicinal diet. We hope that our visitors could enjoy the first-hand experience while exploring its underlying principles.

 

The Experience Centre is a four-story building, taking up an area of 1680m². The first floor shows the landscape of TCM. Handmade herbal medicine demonstration and electronic interactive system that incorporates sound, light, electricity, simulation and other advanced technologies will introduce the visitors to the colourful TCM culture.

 

The second floor presents the diagnosis and treatment of TCM with a focus on the internal approach. This floor is also equipped with high-end consulting and treatment rooms. Diagnostic methods and therapies from ancient times to the present day are displayed, along with the apparatus that integrates ancient treating methods with modern high technologies, so that visitors could have an idea of the style of TCM therapies.

 

The third floor demonstrates medical practices with a focus on the external approach. Visitors could have their hands on the medical apparatus such as the acupuncture instruments. They also have a chance to learn about the traditional Chinese qigong exercise and meditation while experiencing a variety of professional therapies including ear acupuncture, tuina, cupping, scraping, moxibustion and acupuncture.

 

Finally on the fourth floor visitors could have a taste of the Chinese medicinal diet. The Chinese way of healthy eating and food recipes will be presented to our visitors.
